EchoEcho, herefishy is right Iam afraid I misunderstood. You said you thought clown pleco could use some help eating algae. I mistakenly assumed you had algae when recomending oto's . They do indeed need considerable algae to live. Many show little interest in anything but algae. I would wait until there was sufficent algae for them to survive before I purchased them. Clown plecos will eat some algae but most of their diet consists of wood and whatever food they can scavenge from the bottom of an evening along with occasional vegetable matter already suggested. :)

The most important medication in your fish medicine cabinet is.. Clean water.

Plus, if you keep the clown pleco well fed off of other things, he won't bother to eat the algae, cuz they can get quite lazy!

Another very cool algae eating cat are the Farlowella cats- just thought I'd mention them cuz I can.

How long have you had the fish? My clown pleco hid for two or three days without eating a thing when I first introduced him to the tank. It might just take a little while for him to get used to his surroundings before his true appetite really shows.
