Hi all,
I have a Featherfin Squeaker catfish named Hoover in a 46-gal bowfront (I know he probably needs more room, but it's what I have, and I got him from someone who had him in a 10-gal tank with goldfish). He's about 7" from nose to base of tail. Tank is fully cycled with an Emperor 280 HOB filter.
I absolutely love Hoover, but I want a few tank mates for him. A local fish store recommended Cardinal Tetras. Suffice it to say that Hoover enjoyed a $15 snack.
What can I put in the tank? Would 3 female platies work? They need to be fast, not too colorful (although I'd enjoy some color since Hoover is gray), and large enough that he doesn't eat them.
Also, I have a Penguine 350 filter that my husband used on a saltwater tank for a time. I'd like to put it on the freshwater bowfront tank - I prefer to go overboard on filtration - but would I need to get new biowheels since the old ones have salt on them? I've never converted from salt to fresh before.
Thanks!
-Julie
