no plain tanks, id just start out with sand, Ive had gravel and cories, rocks and cories, sand and cories, they are alot more active on the sand then the rocks and they clean the bottom so much better with sand, between them and the kuhlis I only got poo left on the sand, all other debris is gone.

I prefer sand with cories. I think sand is easier to avoid nitrates in as well. Detritus sits on top of the sand where as in gravel it can get down in it and be hard to clean.

+one for sand. All debri stays on top of sand as opposed to lodging in the gravel like Ty said!

I agree with 1077 and Ty, I have sand in my 20G and I like it alot. looks great and brightens up the tank too

I think sand looks the best. I still have not tried it.
I am trying the corys in a glass bottom tank right now with my angelfish and they seem to be fine. Actually look like they like it. Nice and smooth and they can find the food easier.
