cory questions

hello there. Well i was told that corys get along well with bettas. So Ive looked at several stores already,so far no small ones. Im gonna keep looking though! Lol. My betta is in a 10 gallon tank, recently upgraded to it. So here are my questions if i can remember them all. Heh.

From what im told you need 6 corys to be happy lil fellas, but i am also told not to add more than 2-3 new fish to a tank at a time. So,on that note,is it okay to get say 3 now and then 3 more a lil later on?

And how much longer should you wait till you get more? Also i know they should be put in QT for awhile. How long should i keep them in QT? Some sites say 2 weeks, others say a month.

I would set up a critter keeper most likely for QT for them. I do have an extra heater 25w and a small filter i can put on it. What temp should it be set at?

Should ikeep it bare bottomed or put something in it?

Also i read hikari is the best to get for them? the wafers...what else can they have? I already have fd bloodworms, shrimp and daphnia for my betta. Hmmm....do they need flakes too?

When is a good time to feed them.. I think i read at night a lil before lights out...

Do they like alot of plants in their tank? I have 5 fake silk ones in there right now. Also have 2 caves. The bottom is gravel and those colored stones. is that okay?

hmm i think thats it...i might be back though! Lol. thanks to anyone who replies. Im really excited to look for some cories.

Oh wait one more haha. What kinda cory ya think is easiest to find? As in the ones that stay small. I found online so far 4 that stay small. Obviously the dwarf and pygmy, but also the salt & pepper and false bandit. If there are anymore to look out for,id appreciate it. Im gonna find pics to these ones i found so far,put them on my phone so when i go to look at them i can compare and makes sure it is what it says lol. Dont always trust the stores haha.

So yup im done for real now. :)

Lol. yeah me either till i started this search. I think i read over 180 different species of corys.Urgh these sites that have them in centimeters and centrigrade mess up my brain haha.

The world uses cm and degrees C. I have finally started to be able to relate one to the other but find it a bit difficult at times. We can't expect people all over the world to use units as odd as cubits and furlongs just because we haven't come into the modern world.

I have found that if I keep trying to relate, it sort of makes sense. The easiest thing for me is that I just know that 77F is 25C. Since that is so close to typical tropicals temperatures, it is easy to quickly get a feel for temperature when it is a number nearby. Just treat it as 2F equals 1C so 26C becomes 79F and 24C becomes 75 F. If you look up the real numbers, you will find those are closer to the real values than most of our thermometers can read anyway.

I use online converters too. My brain cant do all that conversion stuff lol. So i went to the fish store in NJ. They had panda corys. I was gonna get the guy and say i want some, but some lady got him before i did. She took all of them! There was 12 in there. Shes like all my fish died so im replacing them all now. Im like can i have three of those? Shes like no. Im like 3 aint gonna matter. Shes like well it matters to me so no. What a bleep lol. I was pissed after that. But guy said they should get more wednesday so i can call and see if they got em. Doubt they hold them though. Im just gonna be mad if i go all the way over there again and someone beats me to it again! Hah. Other than that i checked out like 3 other pet stores. Petsmart and petco both had small otos. Are they compatible with bettas? So if i cant get my cories i might get an oto. If thats a good idea. I dunno.

hmm well seems hard work to keep otos alive from what i read. I know i dont have enough algae in my tank to sustain them. So i just keep looking for cories lol. Ah well.

Yeah i guess she didnt lol. I dunno. I shall try and see if they can hold some if they do get them. I dunno. Im kinda thinking now that im having so much trouble finding them that maybe im better off without lol. They were adorable lil things though. Well i have some time now to think haha. Now to do a water change on Fishys tank. Oh and that stupid heater isnt heating. Urgh. Im gonna trade it in for a 75 lol . I dunno why i having so much trouble with heaters now.

Cool that should work fine. I had that in my 2.5 and 5.5 gallon tank, worked great no problems. Im still sticking with visi therm heaters l,so hopefully the 75 will do the job.

Cool! Oh okay well thats fine lol. As long as you are good with wc's which i think you are with all your bettas its all good. :) Congrats on the new tank too!
