1. Does anyone know the difference between a Julii and a False Julii Cory?
2. I have 7 Corys (Juliis or false Juliis i'm not sure which) and they are exceptionally shy! I've had Corys in the past and i don't remember them being so skittish. Is this species known for being extra shy?
I have some False Julii's (not sure of the difference either, maybe they look different, barely?) and they are pretty skittish too. I've only had them for a few month so that may be it...
Natalie, The julii cat is in a picture here http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/species.php?species_id=378 The false julii is in the pictures here Corydoras trilineatus • Callichthyidae • Cat-eLog • PlanetCatfish Compare the two. The patterning on the fish's head is quite obviously different and the spot pattern along their flanks is also quite different. You should be able to tell by looking at your fish and these pictures. Their needs are similar but if you scroll down to the husbandry heading for the trilineatus it gives some detail about the fish.
I have false julii (trilineatus) and they are very outgoing and always at the front of the tank. However, I've had them for over a year so it may be that yours just need some time to settle in.
Geez, i think mine are Juliis but even after looking at the pictures i'm not completely sure. I hope they do settle in! They're the cutest little fish, but to enjoy them you have to sit very very still!
