We have an upside down catfish but he hardly ever shows up !!
Also read a few places that portholes only grow to about 4 inches MAX .... is that correct - it's a 4 foot tank .
Thanks

haha i got an upsidedown cf too and i thought he had been eaten until i thoroughly cleaned the tank (took all the hidey holes out) months later and found him alive and FAT! my bet is that if they are skittish fish or like caves at all, you wont see him ever. that's how mine is. but every fish/setup is different. maybe you could figure out a set-up in which he feels like he's hiding while you are still able to view him.

There's also either a variation or related species with a big black and white striped tail called a Flagtail Catfish.
