Banjo Catfish

I bought eight Banjo Cats a few days ago , and they are pretty amazing little catfishes. I have them on pool filter sand and being nocturnal , they bury during the day. They ate the first night I bought them , feeding on cichlid flakes and earthworm flakes . I'll soon treat them with frozen bloodworms , a rare occassional beefheart. Unlike most catfish, they have a set of fins underneath they use to scoot like some of the saltwater gobies . I'm in search of a infra-red flashlight to observe their natural behaviors in darkness. Anyone have experiences and observations of anything unique ? If you have no worked with them , these are def. a fascinating fish that will grab you at first sight !

I have one of these guys. I read conflicting things on the internet as to whether they're social fish or not. He's pretty cool. Initially he only came out at night but I found he can be tempted out in the daytime with Hikari sinking pellets. He's a voracious eater when food is about and seems to have grown pretty quickly. It looks like he moves by expelling water through his gills rather than by using his fins. An interesting fish to have though probably not to everyones taste as they spend a lot of time hidden.

I'm not sure if they are social or not , mine pretty much do their own thing and not group up like Corydorus. Mine also sift their sand as well but they def. scoot along with their extra set of fins like gobies.
I agree with you , for the majority , these fish as with many other oddities are not for most people and would probably find them boring. As for me , you have to get a sense of respect for the animal itself , who it is and what it is all about. I do appreciate a nice beautiful cichlid but my love is for the weird and wacky creatures .

I also like mine because I don't see him very often, so when he does come out it's an exciting treat ha! Mine grew really quickly - he's now around 3.5 - 4inches. He's got a lot bulkier too. I've tried to get some pics but it's hard to get a good one.

I'm a fan of the weird and wonderful fish. I have a lovely Whiptail Catfish, who i really like for his unusual movements and appearance.
