Anybody else with acanthicus adonis out there?

I'm doing a survey to see if any captive specimens have exceeded 15" in length. If your a. adonis has been raised in tanks from a 2" size and attained even half the max reported wild size, I'd love to hear it! My first adonis reached 10" body length (15" with tail whips) in one year, and my new one is growing with similar speed. After five years, other keepers report a length of no more than 15" body length.

This forum said I didn't have security tokens or something. I don't even know what that is, but I hope they taste like chocolate. Anyway, you can browse my Monsterfishkeepers album as it's loaded with pics of my adonis.

The fish in my avatar is a platysilurus species. Almost nothing in known about their requirements and care, so I'm doing my best.

They do taste like chocolate. The reason I know this is because I already ate yours, sorry!

I can't browse Monsters because I'm not a member. After a few more posts you should be able to attach a pic to your posts. So the platysilurus looks alot like my Pictus but I bet he will get much bigger than my pictus, yes?? I love all long whiskered cats.
What size tank and who else are housed with your platysilurus??

Is this the pleco that develops armoured spikes along its pectorals and up and down its back??

You betcha! The acanthicus adonis is reported to max out at 39". But for all I know that was the granddaddy Shaquille O'neal of the species' genepool. So far the largest confirmed sizes (that I've found) of captive-reared specimens sits in the 15 to 16 inch range for body without tail.

Ya know, my LFS has one. The reason he caught my eye were all those spikes! I asked how in the world they could ship a fish like that. Ron walked me around back and showed me the box he came in. It was an acrylic box, and the think plastic went around the box. This baby is HUGE. He's not captive bred, though. I'm due for a visit to the store soon, should I take a picture for you?
The guy Ron ordered this fish for paid Ron a deposit to order it but never showed up to pick up the fish once it arrived! Ron has it for sale but at such a steep price and for requiring such a huge tank that poor pleco may be sitting for a bit.

They're pretty but I don't have the space for just one nor the money to buy.

Sent from my desktop or phone or whatever else I am holding on to

I'm ready for the pressure.
The drama and the pleasure!
If there is one thing I want to see here, it's HUMOR.
I believe I can fly!
I believe I can touch the sky!
I think about it every night and day!
I stand in awe of my body.

Very pretty when they are younger but very scary looking when they are adults.

I think they go from cutesy to awesome as they age. Who doesn't want monsters? :D

A picture of the LFS adonis would be great. My LFS left their adonises in an under-maintained female betta tank and they didn't grow for months. Mine came from that tank within days of when they received them and he is over 4" with another 3" of whips while the one they have left is still 2" and doesn't even have his whips started. Sad to see what high nitrates will do to sensitive fish.
