Question Albino Plecos

In regards to "albino" coloring in plecos: Is it limited to certain species of plecos or can any species of pleco be albino colored??

If you don't stand up for something you'll fall for anything...

Any species of pleco has around a 25% chance of having an albino offspring... I'm pretty sure that doesn't only go for Plecos.

So in regards to breeding: albino isn't a trait you can select for?

It's certainly something you can select for. However, it's rather complicated, I think there was a good issue in TFH magazine recently. Basically, if you breed two albino fish, you can count on getting a heck of a lot more albino offspring than if you breed one albino and one non-albino.

I thought so. There are just too many albino plecos available that I was postive it was something breeders could select for. Thanks for verifying!

Yup, same way it goes for any fish. Like how guppy or betta breeders can create all sorts of cool colors. Or how if both of your parents have brown eyes, you probably will too.

My 9 albino bristlenose plecos are just about to reach breeding age- can't wait to start breeding them, and it'll be interesting to see how many standard colors ones show up.
