Has anyone heard of pleco's getting aggresive? We have 2 commona in a tank with a bunch of young cichlids. We've noticed over time that a few that appeared healthy have suddenly dissappeared. No bodies left behind, nothing around the tank. I noticed a half eaten body in the tank yesterday and went to pull it out. One of the plecos came zooming over from the other side of the tank and attacked the net, then took a bite out of the dead fish.
that doesn't make much sense for common plecos, unless maybe they aren't getting the diet they need. i've never seen a pleco eating dead fish, i usually see the rest of my fish doing that. are you sure they are common plecos? i know there are other plecos that are a lot more carnivorous.
This is hinted at in our profile.

Something we all need to remember: The fish you've acquired was quite happy not being owned by you, minding its own business. If you’re going to take it under your wing then you’re responsible for it. Every aspect of its life is under your control, from water quality and temperature to swimming space. [Nathan Hill in PFK]
my understanding is that two male plecos might "fight" a bit, but i wouldn't think they'd bother other fish, especially if the others aren't bottom feeders.
