I was in the process of setting up a tank for a violet goby I planned to buy from Walmart, but the same day I was going to get it, my fish came down with some sort of sickness. Being that violet gobies are already delicate and mine would need to acclimate to fresh water, I couldn't take the risk.

If you want something to get done, stop giving them money. If they sell those fish, they are going to buy more. I don't care how tortured that animal is, you have to speak with your money. Feel free to point out the illness, and ask for the fish for free, but don't pay a dime. You're 'saving' one but killing many more by keeping the cycle going.

I hate Wal-Mart, too, but unfortunately, in a small college town, there's only two main stores - Target and Walmart. Walmart is the cheapest, so I always go there to buy my things. Most people I know buy their bettas there. Poor things in an inch of water :( I'll admit to buying some of my platties there.... Not good. :(
