olive nerite snails?

When my lightly brackish tank finishes it fishless cycle, i am interested in adding some olive nerite snails. Anyone have any suggestions where to buy, a place that does not charge a small fortune for shipping? Are there any other snails that do well in brackish water? My plan is to add 7.5- 11 tsp. of marine salt per every 10 gallons.

Many nerite snails will do well in brackish. Who knows you may get lucky hatching the vellifers but not many vellifers make it to the small snail stage. Just make sure your tank has adequate algae supply. Neritina natalensis, Vittina waigiensis and Clithon corona are a few I can mention that are often available. Find Arakkis in Aquariacentral.com. He always has the oddest nerite snails for sale.

Thanks Lupin. I have read some of your snail recipes and about adding calcium to the tank. I have also tried to research Nerite snails some. I know they will not go after plants, but will any of your recipes, vegetables you have recommended, or the tumms attract the Nerites? I would hate to starve them.

I really have not seen my nerites go for anything else but algae. I just culture soft green algae for them to eat. They are frustrating to feed on anything. A few people did have luck feeding them on squash and cucumber slices though. As for calcium blocks, they won't eat the blocks but they make great calcium source by placing them in the filter. No fishfood needed here unless you want some Pomacea diffusa which will definitely like the plaster of Paris pucks and gnaw them little by little. My pucks look like they'll last only a week with my canas.lol
