both glass and acylic make good tops. a few things to point out though.
both must be kept clean. a good wipe every couple days so the salt creep doesnt build up on them as this will impact your light penetration.

acylic is cheaper and easier to cut yourself ( scoring glass isnt to difficult either ) but in the long run may sag. more importantly if your running halide lights, or setting lights ontop of this be careful of heat build up. you dont want to melt the plexi. the best bet with a plexi lid would prob. be to have your light on legs hovering an inch over the lid.

Thought we were talking sump here. ?? So, if that is the case, acrylic would be the better case. Your not going to run lights 1" off the surface, and certainly not halides.

I'm talking both sump and display tank. My cats are wild and everything needs to be 100% covered. It may not look the best, but it's what I need.

I'm fine with making something just bad with planning and designing. So glass or acrylic top or display. Maybe I can make a canopy to hide the lights and put some pc fans in it.

For the sump, if If I do a 20Long display I doubt I'll find a stand with a bottom cabnit that can fit a 20 long sump, unless its iron and the sump would be out in the open. So that would need to be covered as well.

Gf wants cats, and I want fish lol.

Not 100% covered as there will be holes for plumbing and equipment and that's fine.

And sry for the bad wording. I did mean both sump and display but when I went back and looked I saw where the confusion started lol
