Specfic Gravity Levels

I usually keep my other saltwater fish tank at 1.023 its a fish only tank. But this guy at this local fish store said u can keep a saltwater fish only tank at around 1.016 isn't that too low for any type of saltwater fish???

You can keep them alive at 1.016. This was a rather wide debate in the 1990's, as many people were experimenting with keeping fish at lower specific gravities in an effort to "prevent" parasites from infecting display tanks. These efforts had very little impact on parasites in practice and faded away as hobbyists realized that the use of a quarantine tank was the only practical solution.

There are still disagreements from some sources within the hobby, but the large majority of hobbyists today support duplicating nature, which would be a 1.024 specific gravity.
