I was looking to buy the Nova Extreme 24" 96w T5 lighting system with cooling fan, etc., and in additon throw on some LED's for night time use on a future reef nano, a 10 gallon tank.
In the classifieds, however, I talked to a member that suggested the 48w without a fan, same length.
I realize both of these will make a nice reef tank, although there is a massive price gap between them. I wanted to make sure I had enough light that I wouldn't have to skip nice high light coral once the tank is set up, but thinking about it, if I have 12 lbs of Live Rock in a 10gallon, I should be fine with placing high light corals near the top with the 48w, right? I mean, the light won't disperse much in the first few inches of water, so I should be cool, I would assume.. I am looking for advice on that.
This will be my first time using T5 lighting and I am a bit confused on a 24hr cycle, so I planned on switching day lights off and running a set of 1w LED's at night. Good plan, or dumb plan? Better ideas?
According to the poster giving me advice in the classifieds section Marineland is running a clearance on both of these fixtures at the moment, so quick help would be appreciated I think I might order them within a day or two depending on feedback on here.
Also real quick- I am running a very low wattage (104 gph) powerhead on the tank, using a 30gallon rated Biowheel filtration system, 12 lbs of live rock, NO protein Skimmer, NO heater (unless needed), a small computer fan blowing on the water, 3.5 inches of live sand.... What would you recommend for RO? I want one on the tank, but I am unsure of what brand to use on such a small tank. Suggestions?
