I have a 20G high freshwater fish tank for the past year after upgrading from a 10 gallon for the past 6 years. I have been thinking about adding a saltwater fish tank for about 3 months now. How large of a tank would you consider? I am planning to do a coral tank. My budget is about $1000 for setup.
I don't know a lot about the pricing but I think a good 30 gallon would work for a starting tank. Of course, if you can, get a bigger one so you can put in more of a variety.
If you only want corals though, I have seen some nano tanks, under 20 gallons, that look really good and had 2-4 species of coral in it, as far as I could tell anyway.
i am about $600 for my setup of a 37 gal. i had to start from scratch
