Need Help Starting

hey everyone....i decided to swap my 10g to a saltwater tank.....i will be using my Aquaclear filter for the filtration....i have a few questions.....i bought a light for it and should the light be the full length of the tank or would it be ok the light i got is called Aqualight its 12inches long and im using it for my tank which is 20 inches long and 12inch in depth and 10 1/2 wide? and also the light says to be on a clear glass ? would a clear thick plastic be ok? and would the light be to clsoe and kill the corals?

The lighting fixtures are 7" wide x 2 1/2" height and 12" long? will it be suffcient enough? Considering my tanks height is 12"??

Thanks more questions will be aksed once some of these are answered.

The lighting you bought is not powerful enough to burn anything. It will be fine for a 12" tall tank.

You also don't 'need' a piece covering the tank, it can be exposed (many tanks are done this way).

You don't mention what the wattage or what the bulbs are. If they are T5 and around 40w you should be good for most any coral. If they are T12 and about 20w you may want to stick with soft corals.
