So,

I have a 20g saltwater aquarium. I conditioned the water and have 2 live rocks and a couple fake logs as well as live sand. I have had the tank about a week. I put in a clown fish and a purple bottomfeeder and 2 hermit crabs.

I changed the water today, about 4 gallons. I put the appropriate amount of salt in the water and switched it out. I also cleaned out the filter by taking out the filter parts and rinsing them and puting them back in. The water got really clowdy after I did this.

A few hours after I did this both fish died and I have no idea what I did wrong. I am new to this so any advice on what to do would be much appreciated. Thanks for the help.

Hi sw and welcome to the forum. Okay, I'll be honest, I'm not a SW person but I'll help you the best I can until a SW person comes along.

When you did the water change, how did you prepare the water? From what I know and have researched, you can never add the salt directly to the tank. It must always be premixed in a separate container and then the water added.

In the meantime, I'll see if I can't rustle some help up for you.
