ok so as most know i have a sump with a ball of macro algae growing real nice in it.. i was wondering however what are the ins and outs of keeping macro in the DT? such as Halimeda and some of the cooler reds and blues....any special water conditions? are ferts needed? lighting requirements? thoughts and opinions please

if you ever took a look at my tank and noticed the window in the bottom, that was my sump. i had this because i actually kept a few different kinds of macros.

i say go for it BUT please do some solid research on how prolific they are, what lighting, flow, and so forth they require for each type. they will use cal, mag and alk as well as other trace minerals that are replenished per water changes. i would not dose anything extra your not testing for, but also only try to keep those of what you are capable of doing so.
