lighting help

I posted this Q in the light section but didn't get any answers so I am posting it again lol.

I now have a 30 gallon tank that is 15 inches tall and 12 inches deep. My light just fried, i turned on the switch and the circuit went up in smoke. So now i am upgrading, to the 36"x8" Nova Extreme SLR which puts out 156 watts. My question is and i hope i have given enough background knowledge, can this light in this tank support LPS and or SPS?

At twelve inches deep, and good water quality I think that fixture would be just fine.

thanks!, another less expensive option is the 36"x5 1/2" T5 fixture that releases 78 watts of power. Would that be enough to support LPS if i placed them high on the liverock near the surface?

It's not that I hate the 78 watts for LPS. I love those SLR fixtures because they maximize output from those T5 bulbs. I would say that placed high in the tank that LPS should survive, but I personally feel that 156 watts is worth the $100.

i agree with you but I am also trying to make a sump/ refugium, and if i bought the light i wouldn't have any money left.
