On the filter pads... yes, you've got it.

On the skimmer, I personally run mine from day 1. Others disagree. They are wrong and I am right, as always.-)

In all seriousness, you can't go wrong either way. I like to run the skimmer so that I can inspect it for leaks and adjust performance, prior to the addition of live stock. My aquariums with live rock usually cycle in less than 1 week, so i can't see any evidence that running the skimmer hurts the cycle.

Thanks, Im going to go ahead and order the skimmer, air pump, and power filter from www.thatpetplace.com

My LFS has no protein skimmers under $170, and has the same filter but it costs 20 buck more : /
