Any ideas on how to improve.

Hello all, I currently have a 58g FOWLR. I was having a bit of an algea problem, but i think i have that under control now. I have about 75lbs of live rock, about 50 lbs of live sand, 3 maxi jet 1200 powerheads, and a emperor 400 bio-wheel. I am planning on getting a protein skimmer this week. The lights are coralife PC's. Any suggestions on what i could add to improve the tank? Another powerhead...etc? I am running on a somewhat tight budget, but i would still like to do what i can. Thanks for any input.

Get that skimmer going. That'll pull a lot of crud out of your tank before it has the chance to go through the nitrogen cycle. You should also be checking your calcium, magnesium, and alkalinity levels. This helps the nicer coralline algae grow (purple stuff) which will out compete the more pesky algae. You could also add some macro algae (saltwater plants) and that'll do the same thing as the coralline.

How long has that tank been up anyway?

The tank has only been up for about 3 months now. I actually have a good bit of the pink/purple algea growing.
