Windelov Java Fern turning black?

I've had a planted tank set up for 6 months and all the plants are thriving except the Java Fern. The plant is turning black. I read the plant profile on this site and it states:

black areas on the leaves is a sign of nitrogen deficiency (ammonium and nitrate).

Read more: Java Fern (Microsorum pteropus) Profile.

So, I have been doing water changes every week. I'll have to test my water, but generally in an established tank shouldn't these levels be low as they have been when I've tested in the past.

Looking for advice on what to do.
Thanks!
~ Lisa

Do you dose fertilizer? Also what type of lights do you have?

I dose Flourish 2x a week. Flourish Iron 3 days and off for 1 day. Then I add CO2 Booster every day.

I have a 65 gal breeder so I have two light bulbs that are 36": One is a Aqueon Floramax for Plant Growth, T8 25 watt. The other is an All Glass Aquarium 25w, nothing else is stated and not sure what else this bulb is. I put this bulb back in because having both Floramax's made the tank too dark (blueish.)

Thanks!!

Why the iron? Do you have some plants that require extra iron for coloration?

Yes, my plants were turning yellow. The lfs said we have low iron here, so started and the plants greened right up!

Thank you, Boredom!
I just saw another post from March and they said maybe the rhizome is planted too deep. I have it in my gravel, was careful so its not too deep. However, maybe that is still too much. Will place a rock on top of the roots on top of the gravel and see how that goes. I do have driftwood, but it would be a project to get that out to tie the roots around it! Will see if the lfs has a small piece of driftwood!!
