So I got the 29g marineland led aquarium kit (30" x 12" x 18") as of late and was wondering if this LED is sufficient enough to grow plants

Here are the lighting details:

# and Color of LEDs and Wattage

.11W LEDs

Total Watts
4.62

Total LUX
990

Total Lumens @ 12"

Does it give us the kelvin rating? Even besides that I would have to say no 300 lumens is not very much even for a small tank.

I have a 20 gallon marineland LED aquarium kit and have had it running since the beginning of the year. I have java moss, java fern, moss ball, several crypts, medium sword plant (don't remember what kind), pygmy chain sword plants, and val growing in it. The low light plants do fine. The crypts are planted near the front of the tank and so get some extra light. Plants are definitely slower growing than with higher lighting. I am having some trouble with the val, but it may be because the roots are not covered well and it is at the back.

The java moss and fern definitely like where they are. The pygmy chain swords I just got a couple of months ago and, again are near the front. They seem to be doing well and have multiplied, but I think that it is too early to give a definite answer on how well they do with LED.

Your not going to get much plant growth out of any fixture that uses the small 5mm LED's or similar. At the best you can get very low light plants. You need high powered LED's that usually run 2-3 watts each before you can get good plant growth.
