The WPG rules stinks!!!!! Wattage is a measurement of enrgy. Example, wattage is heat, heat is energy, therefore, wattage is energy.
You need a bulb that is highly efficient, ie. highest lumens at the lowest possible wattage. But the bulb should also emit light that the plants can use. So, now spectrum comes into play.
The most important things in selecting lighting for the planted tank are intensity(lumens) and spectrum. Wattage is not important.
To answer your question, that much heat will probably melt your plastic fixture. Definitely will warp the deflector if it's plastic.
