Weird Algae growing on glass...

I wasn't sure where to put this... It's my 10 gallon brackish planted...

The algae is essentially dark brown spots around the middle of the front glass pane. The only reason it's bugging my is that it won't scrape off.

I tried a razorblade on the glass, and I was having so much trouble I ended up scratching the glass... And not even putting a dent in the algae.

The tank is planted with crypts (wendtii, blassii), swords (rosette sword, Echinodorus Angustifolia var Vesuvious), and dwarf hairgrass.

I'm up to 3tsp per gallon, added slowly, but I don't have a hydrometer, so I'm unsure on the exact salinity.

Any ideas on the algae, or should I just move everything over to a new tank? (I hope not.)

I would say diatom algae... but algae shouldn't be terribly hard to remove... especially with a razor blade. This may be a silly question, but are you sure the spots aren't on the outside of hte glass? lol

They're definately on the inside... I can feel the algae when I put my hand in the tank. Definately hard and solid.

Seems to be more common in marine tanks... Still no easy way to get rid of it. One reccomendation is to raise the salinity and introduce urchins.. I bet they'd eat the plants though. (if the salinity didn't kill them first.)

You could try taking a syringe of hydrogen peroxide and slowly injecting it right over the algae. That or excel, both are often used as spot algicide treatments.
