which way is up?

i have some sort of aponogeton plant in my 2.5 beta tank and ive let it sit and shoot roots out, but are they roots or what? i know the plant has large leaves and these roots/leaves are coming out of the bottom of the bulb were roots used to be before it was dried. i just wanted to make sure which end goes down, sorry if it sounds kinda dumb. oh and the side were i would expect leaves hasnt started to get leaves yet but hopefully it will soon. thanks

i could get one but i found out dont worry. someone told me let it sit and make some roots before i put it in the gravel and i thought i was seeing roots but i was seeing leaves, i got in there and moved it and on the bottom there are little white roots (i would expect them to be white instead of green which was throwing me off). so im good, im going to put it in the gravel now and let it grow. maybe ill work on my diy c02 system tonight, since i got the yeast today. I also heard incandescant wasnt good light so i swapped the bulb out with a little flourescant lightbulb.

heres a pic of it in the back right corner of the tank, i have to use flash or my pics are REALLY blurry so sorry about the lighting effects. im using a nikon L10 coolpix

dont worry about the fake plant to the right, it meets the corner of the window and gets some light so it gets a little algae covering every once and awhile.
