Tom Barr Dry Start

On Byron's suggestion from the four part sticky on planted tanks, I invested in Walstad's book, Ecology of the Planted Aquarium. It is not for the faint of heart, but a fantastic resource for the science minded. Walstad briefly discussed the Dry Start Method by Tom Barr. Have forum members tried it? Questions, comments, suggestions?

I've never tried it, but I did write a few topics about using soil. (see my signature).

I use soil, but since I don't "overfeed" I have to use liquid fertilisers. (So far, I'm just lacking potassium, but I'm dosing traces just to be on the safe side).

Whenever I get another tank, if I don't do saltwater, I was going to try the dry start method...Did you see D. Walstads short article from when she did the dry start? I think it's in my topics.
