everyone is correct about plants needing a good mix of red and blue wavelengths in the light. however this can be achived by buying regular household bulbs, you dont need to go out and spend 4327189372198 dollars on a single bulb when you can spend less than 10 for a good size one. when shopping for regular household light's (Floro t8's) you want to look at watt per gallon. i use a like a 40 watt actnic and a regular household light and the plants are fine dont belive everything you hear not to say some mebers are wrong here but some also are stuck in their ways and wont ever change. if you like i can delve deeper into this if you like
P.S Only light at a Wavelength of 254 nm has germicidal effect AKA Ultra Violet lights and yes these will blind you for about half a day i learned this the hard way.
Actually the homestore that starts with "L" has a REAL good selection for good 4ft flu recent bulbs for tanks, their full spectrum or daylight is plain awesome and I use that combo on both my big tanks, I wished they'd make these in small too for my 10g, but there they have the screw in daylight bulbs that I recently got, plant growth difference and color in the tank are amazing and all these bulbs are like less then $5
just my 2 cents.... there's always more then 1 option in the fish world
