That's pretty!
Is that a twig from a tree with moss on it?
That is so awesome!! What kind of moss, how do you keep the twig from rotting?

This looks just like my 15 tall (the tank not the contents) So I believe you are right.

It is a couple of branches cut from a bush in my front yard ... I really just cut the branches and pulled the leaves off and then stuck it in the gravel. So it hasn't had time to rot yet, but if it does rot I will probably just get a different shaped branch, borrow some moss from the old one, and build it again.

the moss was labeled "java moss" at the local fish store ... but I know there are at least 2 different kinds of moss in there because one has "furry" strands and the other has smooth ones. I also have a little bit of baby tears stuck up in the branches ... not sure if it will like being out of the substrate, but i will see.

I love my tank! it is so peaceful to look at. my bf makes fun of me for staring at it for hours on end. :) i hope the moss grows all over the gravel like grass. then i will keep it "mowed" with scissors.

here is an updated picture I just took today...

I wanted to hide the heater, so I split the tree into two "trees" and put one on the side where my heater and cables are.

I also pruned my pearl grass down to the roots and planted tips on both sides. The tips are sprouting new leaves and the roots from the mother plant are sprouting too. Hopefully I will have a pearl grass ground cover in a couple of months. :)

The java moss is doing awesome! When I come home from work on a sunny day it has hundreds on tiny bubbles in it.

Overall the tank is doing pretty well ...I want to set up DIY CO2 for this tank since it gets so much light from the window, so maybe I will do that this weekend when I have some free time.

how did you disinfect the brach? i am getting java fern soon from mgamer(thx), and i also wish to get a branch from the yard and put it in. also, i want to get a small piece of wood from my woodpile and put it in, and how do i disinfect it? i know you have to boil it, but for how long?

The first rule of Fight Club is - you do not talk about Fight Club. The second rule of Fight Club is - you DO NOT talk about Fight Club. Third rule of Fight Club, someone yells Stop!, goes limp, taps out, the fight is over. Fourth rule, only two guys to a fight. Fifth rule, one fight at a time, fellas. Sixth rule, no shirt, no shoes. Seventh rule, fights will go on as long as they have to. And the eighth and final rule, if this is your first night at Fight Club, you have to fight.

This might be bad but I actually didn't boil mine at all ... it was too long to fit in a pot and I don't have any chemicals or pesticides in my garden where I got it. I really just pulled the leaves off and stuck it in the gravel. And I kept an eye on the fish after I put it in ... I would have taken it out if they started acting strange. (Maybe this lack of preparation is bad idea, I'm not sure ... I am pretty new to this. :)) I had to use some rocks to anchor my branch down at first but after a couple of weeks now it is waterlogged and doesn't want to float any more.
my guppies love the tree btw ... they used to hang out only on the bottom of the tank but now they swim all over. I think they feel safer with it in there.
