sand for my tank

After reading allot of posts on sand for a tank, I went to Lowes and bought 4 50 lb. bags of premium play sand. My tank is a 150 tall that has a footprint of 24x48, would this be enough for my tank ? I want to transplant my plants when I change to sand and I have 3 amazon swords, 4 jungle vals, and varius other smaller plants. Would I have enough that would be deep enough for my amazon swords, and would I be ok with just the sand or would I need to put anything under the sand to help the plants ? Any advise would be great.

That's twice as much as you need, but it is nice to have some extra. I used exactly two 50-pound bags for my 5-foot by 1.5 foot tank. You can return one (or two) if unopened, or keep them for the next tank you setup.

I just use plain sand now. Liquid fertilizer will provide nutrients for all plants, but the larger substrate-rooted plants like swords will benefit from substrate tabs. I use Seachem's Flourish Comprehensive Supplement, and their Flourish Tabs for the swords. Brightwell Aquatics' also has a good line called Florin. Both these are complete balanced fertilizers.

40 breeder

yup I really washed the sand really good, I think that was the key. After I filled it I let it sit for about 6 hours and then started the filter back up. By this morning it was really clear. So far I'm really happy with it.
