rows of dark spots on java fern leaves

I've just got my first plants from an online shop and freaked out at rows of dark spots on the back of the java fern leaves, they're dark brown and on closer inspection are made of a cluster of what I thought were little eggs. The guy at the shop tells me this is normal, New plant growth. I just wanted to check with you guys to make sure this is true. I freaked out a bit as I found a worm on the plant so thought they were worm eggs!

Thanks for your help :)

Those are the spores. All ferns reproduce via spores.

I didn't know about that originally either. The leaves looked like they were dying at one point but I left them float. Glad I did as I have all kinds of little java ferns starting up on the old leaves now. Just waiting until they are big enough to make a new java fern mat.
