Preserving unused aquarium plants

Hi, all. I went crazy buying aquarium plants this week and have a ton left over. I would like to keep them or grow them rather than let them waste, but I don't have another tank available to put them in. Should I just bite the bullet and buy one, or is there another method of keeping them alive? Will I need a filter if I buy one?

You could do something like this:

I bought that bowl for $5 at Walmart. You won't need a filter but you will still need a source for light. That bowl was sitting under a table lamp but I decided that wasn't enough light and got a Desk lamp that its sitting under now.

Hmm...I actually have a bowl like that. If I don't need a filter, I'll just put the thing on a bright windowsill and get a snail or two if I need to for algae control.

I bought some of those one gallon jugs from walmart for $2, and I have jars all over my windowsill filled with clippings. I don't even fertilize, I just have a few snails in each and I might feed them a flake or two like once every few weeks. I grew like 3 feet of anacharis in a month like that.
