i see, we have somewhat the same fauna (fishes). i have four sunset gouramis, 7 black neon tetras, 5 rosy barbs and a betta splenden.
they live in my 35 gal planted aquarium.
my plants are more on the echinodorus sp and i have hygrophila polysperma var sunset, i have neseae sp., rotala rutondifolia, thai stricta, pennyworth, stargrass, and glossostigmata as the foreground. i added riccia fluitans last week, it seems to be doing fine but my rosy barbs love eating it.hehehe
i could suggest, java fern, the anubias species which are hardy plants and vallesnerias... well, vals are big plants... might stick to anubias barteri var nana or the petite.
hope this helps..
