Well I've been thinking about it and I would think I would get a new light. Two choices there you can go to the pet store and get either a hagen life-glo 2 bulb or a zoo med ultra sun super daylight bulb. Either is good. The life-glo 2 is the best. Or go to a hardware store and buy a daylight bulb around 6500k. I have one on my 29 gallon tank. I don't think it is working to well either. I want to get a life-glo 2 bulb just don't have the money right now.
With the swords I would get some root tablets for them that would help a lot with them

i tried getting a better bulb, don't remember what exactly it was, but when i put it in my hood it just kept flickering. not the startup flicker that florescents tend to do, but continuously. don't know if there was an issue with the bulb or with my hood, but i should probably try another one soon.

Hmmm think I remember you talking about that once before. I think new fixtures. Just the fixtures cost about $30 well at least around me they do. That might be something to look into also.

Other then that I don't really know. Sorry I wasn't much help! But those are the things I would try first if it was me.

In my tank the Amazon swords do great. They look great, grow well and seem to hold up well. Some of the other types of plants seem more fussy or... just don't do well in my tank. I have just decided to not even bother with some of the plants I would normally like. I hope the Swords do well in your tank too. They really are beautiful to watch flowing in the tank and the fish seem to enjoy swimming around them and hiding in them.
