When should I fertilize for the first time? After water change?
Always use liquid fertilizer a day following the water change if you use a water conditioner that detoxifies heavy metals. Some plant nutrients like iron, copper, nickel and zinc are "heavy metals" and no point adding them only to have the conditioner detoxify them. After 24 hours is prob OK.

Don't fertilize immediately before a water change (2 days minimum) or the water change will remove some of it.

Something we all need to remember: The fish you've acquired was quite happy not being owned by you, minding its own business. If you’re going to take it under your wing then you’re responsible for it. Every aspect of its life is under your control, from water quality and temperature to swimming space. [Nathan Hill in PFK]

Thanks for comments and advice. :)

Everything seems fine so far... (as if I could tell in 1 day?) :)

I'll fertilize sunday since I W/C saturday.

Wow it's nice. I bet it will look awesome when it fills in.
BTW, if you want driftwood or rocks... check the classifieds forum. someone might be selling them.

Oh, and it's too late now I'm sure... but sewing thread would have worked. :) Black or brown is probably best.
