planting floating plants

I ordered (online) and received 2 "floating" banana plants. They are described as floating planys. So I just dropped them in the tank and let them fall to the bottom i DID NOT plant the/cover the roots in the substrate- did I do that right- I don't want to kill them- they are very cute! Are you suppose to "plant" floaters- I'm confused- thanks in advance for your help!

Yes, you must not bury the tubers (the so-called banana structure) or it will rot even quicker. Leave it sitting where it landed.

This plant does not usually do well in aquaria. Even the experienced planted tank authors find it generally dies within a year.

Looks like it just wasn't "all" the info. I've had this plant in the past. It lasts a while and then dies. It is a very interesting looking plant but, after my experience, I consider it a novelty plant. I'm ashamed to say that I was taken in by mondo grass not all that long ago. Turns out people plant it in their border gardens in their lawns.

Well, as with all plants results may vary from person to person, and tank to tank.

As a 'closed system' and a small one at that, there is quite a bit of variability between different setups. Lasting a year isn't too bad in comparison to other "semi-aquatic" plants that are sold and only last a single month.

Enjoy it while it lasts, but who knows, maybe it will work out?

That would be nice if it lasts- and I am enjoying it now- it is cute!
If it lasts a year I'll be happy- I was surprised that was a short life expectancy-lol! I was going to consider my self lucky if any of my plants survive as I'm new to all this- Haven't even considered a fertilizer- I'm hoping my Beta is up to the task-LOL
