these plants were labeled "assorted" at the pet store just wondering if anyone can identify them?

I know the bushy one is whisteria (sp) and there are two small java ferns, but I am having trouble with the other two and they are different plants, both have roots, the shorter one seems to send of leaves from the center while the taller one has slightly thicker looking leaves and sends off shots from the sides with their own roots ect.

Do I tie it on with dental floss or something...

Can I use a rock from outside if I boil it?

Thanks in advance

Do not boil the rock it can explode instead pour boiling water over the rock. Test it first buy droping vinager or even better if you have the api master kit use the #2 bottle of the nitrite or nitrate test which ever it is that has two bottles I can't remember which it is right now. If the vinager or test liguid bubbles the rock is not safe for your tank. I would think dental floss would be ok as long as it is plain with no flouride or flavor.

Thanks

I grow orchids as well and its common to use floss to mount a plant on wood so i wasn't sure.

Thanks very much for all the advice, you learn so much from forums like this

In the first of the photos, the far left plant is a sword, Echinodorus species, I would suspect Echinodorus bleheri in the emersed form. We have fish and plant profiles, second tab from the left in the blue bar across the top of the screen, or you can click on the name when it is shaded in posts for that profile. Lots of info on this plant.

The other plant is not Echinodorus, but off the top of my head I can't say what it is. Would have to research my photos, and am in a rush at present, so if I remember later I will have a hunt.

Quick comment on the rock from outside, be careful. Depending where it comes from, it may have absorbed toxins, fertilizers, insecticides, etc. There is no way to deal with these safely.

Thanks Byron

The rocks are river rocks from our back garden (its only rocks because we have dogs that dig up my flowers lol).

But I put vinegar on them first with no effect so rinsed them really well, poured boiling water over them for 5 minutes, flipped them and then boiling water again and rinsed them.

The fish seem to be fine with them but I guess its always a risk.

I have a few pregnant balloon mollies and I am planning on leaving the fry in the community tank so I think the plants will help them hide and I might be able to keep a few from each batch (if my plans work out). But I made a little rock bridge with the stones and kind of wedged the java ferns between the rocks so they should be able to grab on nicely and have nice water flow around the roots.
