plant fertilizer

Hi everyone, i,m really enjoying reading everyones posts and all the info. I have a 150 gallon discus tank with all live plants. A while back I saw a post that someone used the jobo house plant fertilizers in a planted tank. I never tried it but I was wondering if anyone tried this and if they had any good or bad results ?

I have never even heard of that fertilizer. I use Flourish Comprehensive and so do lots of other folks around here. Its a well rounded liquid fertilizer that you dose once or twice a week.

I assume you mean Jobe's Plant Sticks. I can't recall anyone here (on TFK) using these, but I have read of them elsewhere. The problem is nitrates. Karen Randall has written that these sticks can be used but nitrates should never be allowed to climb above 5 ppm.

While the cost may be less than for Flourish tabs, I prefer using proper aquatic plant fertilizers in my fish tanks to avoid issues that might cause more trouble (brush algae outbursts have been linked to Jobe's) and especially for the fish. Nitrates should always be as low as possible, plus there are other non-aquatic nutrients in terrestrial fertilizers.

Something we all need to remember: The fish you've acquired was quite happy not being owned by you, minding its own business.
