Placement of CO2 Cylinder

I'd like to setup pressurized CO2 for my 20L. Only problem is, I'm severely limited on space. The cylinder cannot be below the tank or on a level with it- I have two young children and no way do I want that cylinder to be within reach of their grubby little paws.

So, is it okay to have the cylinder above the tank, so long as it is stable and secure?

Also, does anybody know about how big, diameter and height including regulator, a 2.5 and 5 lb cylinder is?

As long as the cylinder is secure it doesn't really matter where it is. Dimensions will depend on your regulator, but honestly most of the space the tank takes up is vertical anyways. 5lb tanks are about 5 inches in diameter but around 18" tall.

Cool, thanks. I wasn't sure if I had to worry about gravity, like with a canister filter.

As long as you're really sure the cylinder's stable it should be okay. However if there are any doubts about the stability of the surface where it goes you should look for another placement option.

I was going to use a wall mounted cabinet, like the sort we use for fire extinguishers. I think I'll add an inner bracket to hold the cylinder so I don't have to worry about it falling out when I open it.
