Pennywort in a bowl?

So, my friend was given some platy fry in a bowl. It's pretty empty, she's getting all she needs in time (this was unexpected, and she couldn't say no). I'm helping her take care of it, but they cannot enter my house, no matter how bad I want them Don't worry about care, we've researched for days straight, so I feel that we're ready.

My main question is that I want to add some live plants to them. Mainly floating, since I don't want to add gravel. One fry nearly got stuck against the large rocks, and there's only about 5 in there. My main thought is pennywort. Would it survive in there? She doesn't use lighting since it's in a well - lit area, and...it's a bowl. If I'm told it won't survive, then I'll just tell her and we'll go another route.

"Hey. I have some bad news, and some good news."
"What's the bad news??"
"There's no good news."

I would say give it a try, you might need a bit of fertiliser for it. I do not know about the fry's.

You could always put a small amount of sand in the bottom so you could have diff plants...

Something like Anarchis would work well floating I believe.
