Ok, so I have some random plants I'm trying to get to grow some roots (they were cuttings from some plants at work) so they have been in water for now. So out of curiosity I stuck two by the filter on my 10 gallon (not full submerged, just the stalk that's rooting). Here's my question...will the plant absorb any ammonia and etc. like the aquatic plants do but just through it's roots? Thanks!!

Yes, it's possible for them to absorb the nutrients in the water. Hydroponics systems work like that.

Thanks! Maybe they'll help my tank out :)

Thanks!

I put pothos vines in my main tank, and the other plant (no idea what it is) in my 10g. I put them directly into the filter though...my mollies thought they were nomz

Well the woman who gave it to me says that's how she keeps her's when trying to get them to root. I've been keeping them in water for the past 2 months and seeing (finally) a good bit of root growth.
