Let's see. I have recently done a bleech dip on my plants to kill both algae and snails and it worked great. My plants did not suffer from it and are growing well.

Algae eating fish are a very good choice if you have room for them and have fish that will get along with them. Some stay very small and need to be in groups to be happy while others get rather large and will actually become bullies when they get bigger. It is all a matter of getting the right ones.

I actually used Flourish Excel to control alage when I had it. Best product I have ever tried. There is also a product called Algone that a few members swear by and have planted tanks while using it.
