OK Dr. Foster shipment finally arrived today. I was able tp finally put water in the tank...YEH!!!!
Got confirmation from Sweet Aquatics plants have shipped... YEH too!!!!
Used prime to condition water.
Substrate is awsome looking.
So I'm gonna let things run til the plants show (hopefully Friday)...
Yeah, the bubbles are just CO2 from your tap water. They will go away and will go away faster once you get those real plants in there. My new 90g was covered in them. 1 day later not many left and 2 days later gone and the plants were fat and happy
yeh it does... we keep the house at 66 so I on't think it will be an issue. With everything I bought, I forgot to get a thermometer lol. Will pick one up tomorrow. I have the heater set at 78. Is that where it should be?
Ok tanks been up and running for 3 days... nothing in it waiting for plants to arrive hopefully latter today. However on my filter intake tube brown stuff is growing... Is this ok?
78F will dep what fish you wanna add there later; so just cross check that before you stock
The Intake looks to me like collecting particles that came out of the gravel not like algae; just run your finger past it see if its coming off easily.
THANKS Angel... was wondering I'm going to be stocking a community tank, when my plants arrive if i go pickup like 6 neons will that be enough fish to start the cycle? I'm going to add the fish after i get the plants in the tank
Anyways, all I did was bury the roots... so lol I hope thats all you do! XD
Also neon tetras I think are a bit fragile fish for cycling... Though with all those plants I don't believe you need to cycle at all really... so I think 6 neons would be fine like you want.
All looks fine to me there! If I'm not mistaken the plant on the left front side with the larger oval leaf if anubia as well as the one to the front right side ain't they!? They'd do better out of the gravel on a rock/ driftwood attached or at least pull them up some so really only the root system will touch the gravel.
Oh for the fish - What all in the end do you wanna have in the tank for fish? Neon's aren't too hardy of a fish to cycle with them (they have no tolerance for NO peaks so if you do check water daily and as necessary do w/c)
If that is Anubias, and I can't tell from the photos, it shouldn't be in the gravel but attached to wood or rock; black cotton thread will work and be almost unnoticeable, or wedge the plant between two pieces of wood or rock; same as for Java Fern, and it will take root in a few weeks and be attached. If these plants (I see one on the left and one on the far right) have a rhizome, a long thick "branch" from which arise the leaves, they are Anubias.
Stem plants can be as deep as you like so long as they are held in the gravel. Roots will form from the stems under the gravel, and along the stems above gravel too.
Rosette plants like swords and Vallisneria having a root system attached to a white "crown" from which the leaves grow up should have the roots under the substrate but the crown must not be buried; at or slightly above the surface is fine.
Re the neons, true they are sensitive, but in a planted tank there is no cycle so this is not an issue. However, the water parameters may not be stable but provided there is not too extreme a fluctuation they should be OK. Tank raised fish are generally (but not always) less of a problem than their wild counterparts.
Just check your order paper if what you bought are Anubia and then acted based of that.
The one on the left side looks kinda like a Anubia Barteri the one on the right not so sure here but you'll know what you ordered
That ammonia reading is perfectly normal. As you have Ammonia in the tap; Prime will detox this into ammonium; while this is far better for the fish your test kit will STILL pick up the reading of it as if it was Ammonia when its not! So you have nothing to worry about!!!!
You can try w/out ferts first and see how your growth is. If you look at my tanks in my log outta all these tanks only 1 receives liquid ferts and the other tank still grow great. That simply depends on the amount minerals you have coming from your tap water. In my case having used well water that was quite iron rich supported a good growth. Otherwsie I'd suggest a comprehensive fert for you (eg. Flourish) once a week.
i just looked into the golden ram and your right my ph is a little to high... bolivian ram doesn't seem as colorful.
not sure which direction im going now
