Hey Guys,

I'm new to the forum so first off I would like to say hello. Im in the earlier stages of my 150 gallon planted aquarium. Since I am new to planted aquariums Id like to hear what you guys have to say. For the most part, I would be getting any type of plant that is too difficult to keep.
I'd also like some advice on stocking my aquarium and how the fish will act with the plants and with each other.

So far I've made a "mock draft" for what fish im planning to keep in the aquarium. The list is as follows:

12 Congo Tetras(Im aware they're not around any of the following fish in nature but I'm hoping they could coexist cause this is an awesome fish)

20 Rummy Nose Tetras

12 Cherry Barbs

6 Angels

6 Yo-Yo/ Pakistani Loaches

8 Pepper Cory's (

2 Tiger Plecos

And finally I would like to have either a breeding pair of Geophagus Red Heads or Blue Acaras Im not sure which would fair better with smaller fish such as rummies

I'll be sure to over filter as I will have 2 FX5 canister filters

I just finished cycling my planted tank. I was kinda torn on what to put in it. I tried some easy (or so they say) plants. Crypts, Amazon sword, ludwigia repens, dwarf saggitaria, jungle val, rotella indica (not so easy), anubias Nana and an Indian red sword I had to rescue fom my silver dollars. I think you're fish choices will be OK but I'm not sure about the blue acara or read heads. Those blue acara are cool though. Plectos can tear up a planted tank but the smaller species usually work out good (says my research). I'm going with neon tetras, zebra danios, celestial pearl danios, cherry shrimp, oto cats and maybe some kind of rainbows or something that stands out. Here's what it looks like now.

That's kinda what I was thinking. I'd just do some more research. You can always rethink your small fish according to the ciclids you get. In fact those blue acaras are so neat you could base your stocking on what's comparable with them. Most of your fish are petty tough I think. I'd be concerned with the tetras getting eaten. I've also read to add more aggressive fish later after the other fish have been established for a while, instead of the other way around.
