Need help with lighting

Hey everyone, I recently decided to ditch the fake plants and put some real ones into my 55gal. From reading all the info in this section, I can see that I'm probably going to have to replace my Coralife Colormax F21-T5-8P bulb. Is it possible to just change out the bulb for something else? Or am I going to have to get a whole new fixture? Any suggestions on where I can get a good price on lighting that would work for me? Thanks for all the help!

corallife is fo coral and not really good for plants check the pins oor legs or what ever they call those things and see whether a philips daylight 6500k will fit in there.the light has to be a bright white light for the plants

Coralife bulbs might be fine... From what I'm reading they are full-spectrum 6700k...

If you have a 2 bulb fixture, then keep one and put a 6500k t5 bulb into the fixture.

If you only have one slot, then it would come down to how long you're had the colormax bulb running... Over a year or two, then replace it with (any brand, GE, phillips, etc) a 6500k T5 tube.... They're just a few bucks at home improvement stores and wal-mart, and are usually called 'daylight'... Look for the 6500k though, and make sure they have the letters T5 on the package.

Also, I would reccomend you find a T5 NO bulb.. HO and VHO will be way too much light.
