Lets not be so quick to judge. Though I've never heard of resun and had a hard time finding much of any info on them. First off lets just point out that Rena=France/2 year warrenty, Ehiem=Germany/2 year warranty, Marineland= USA/3 year warrenty, Tetra= china/?. So Most brands are not made in China. If nothing their price reflects their country of origin. Germany is well known for reliable products, but there are knockoff ehiem products coming out of china these days(they look the same but w/o the logo). Not everything of Rena's is made in France, but the XP filtes are. There smart heaters do come from china and I have not had good experiences with these. Though Rena does uphold its warranties very well. I am glad your filter has worked well for you. Just take in account that it would probably be much more frustrating to deal with Resun's customer support and warranties(which is a year) since they are stationed in china and have no available contacts in the US. Also difficulty getting repair parts.
Also I am one to prefer simplicity. I honestly would not want a UV sterilizer even if one was given to me for free. They have a very limited effect, and as a bio major I feel it is important for that well bred fish show strong immune function. A filter should not have buttons. You plug it in and it turns on controls IMO should be manual. Extra electronics are just another place something can go wrong. The simpler the more fool proof. Like the $150 light hood I built with no on/off switch
. This is the inside of pump housing on my Rena XP3(BTW peeps the inside "inside" of the filter should be cleaned yearly). They got a cord going to a pump and thats it. This filter is about 5 years old. These filters have a common problem of leaking were the cord comes out of the housing. If anyone else ever bothered to take theirs apart they would see it wouldn't leak if you drained all the water out of the housing....
