I don't have any atm, but I SURELY will mail you if/ when this new plant takes over cause I always find it a shame when your plants get to overcrowd your tank and you ain't got no one around to take plants, so I'm always looking for folks to mail clippings and runner to

They nibble on it every now and then but they don't really go for it. I just stuck it to a DW log with a tac for a week or two until it was attached. Yea don't bury it. It will grow "on" stuff. Not real experianced with all this stuff so, I'm not the one with all the answers but, I'll be glad to let you know what I have found out so far. I have 6 SD's about 4".

I hear you aren't supposed to bury the java fern.

I have 6 SD's and they are the Biggest thing in the tank (about 4"). I just bought them and put them in about a week ago, so I'm figuring that they are still stressed out. Plus I have a small amount of ammonia in the tank <.25 so maybe that's doing it too. I have been doing a 40% WC everyday for the last 3 days to keep that down. They have become more "brave" in the last 2 days. But still hide most of the time. I'm pretty sure they will start to swim around like normal pretty soon.
I'll consider getting some of these pennywort plants to see how it goes. What kind of special things do I need to grow these, I have no co2 or anything, just some nice lights.

How many SDs do you have? They can be skiddish if kept in small groups. And/ or larger tank mates can do that to them as well if you have any?

Yeah that stuff can grow fast, but its not my fastest plant. If you want to try something new, grow it emersed. It sends up pretty white flowers.

Yeah pennywort is fast, but for me H. polysperma (sunset hygro) is faster. If I remember to fertilize enough stargrass is pretty fast too.

If you grow pennywort emersed(out of water) it will flower easily. It still needs to be kept in a tank so it stays moist and humid.

Pennywort flower

emsered pennywort in 2.5gal tank.

Those are more "easy care" plants IMO - If you got water and some light over the tank - You're all set to grow them

Hygrophilia is another quicky that is true I never had one that I hadn't started clipping it top off after ~6weeks in my tank, reaching to tops, same story now in the 55g...

HEY that's good to know with the pennywort cause I wanna help my neighbor set up another puludrium and once I seen it, go for my own and I been looking for plants left & right. So thanks for the idea!!!

Rsheets, I actually cycled my tank with 3 small silver dollars. They are very hardy fish and all of them made it through the cycle just fine. They were a bit shy at first too, but they came around within a few days. Now whenever I approcah the tank they go crazy swimming back and forth in excitement (probably more or less becuase I am their source for food..haha). My tank is also in the basement where it is quiet all day. They like that. Give your SD's some time. They'll come around and be a fun addition to your tank. Oh, and I'm going to give the java fern a whirl too
