Lighting Question

I have a 46 gallon bowfront tank. I am running a 2x96w power compact light, at this time I have one light coming on at 7am then the other coming on at 9am both running till 6pm when the first one goes off and then the last one off at 8pm, then the moonlights come on. I have noticed that I am getting some algea on the ends of the tank. I want to be able to run the lights so that it mimics the natural sun cycle, so that when one light is on it looks like early morning then when both lights are on would be noon and when the first light goes out dusk, is that too much time for the lights to be on. What would be the ideal amount of time to run each light. I really like watching my fish so I like having the light on till 8pm.

well, one thing or the other is out of balance. Normally the light is too intense for the level the plants need, but thats alot of ferts too. But 'alot of ferts' is entirely dependent on exactly which ferts. Off hand i would GUESS (blindly) that the ferts are a little too heavy, but before I can make an educated guess, I would need to know which fert(s)

Lighting Question

The ferts I am using is a powder mix that I add water to. Its called MMN formuls, Here is what the ingredients are for a one pound package- 1 part KNO3- 1part K2So4- 1part MgSO4- 1 part CSM+B, I mix 1/4 cup of the powder to two cups water. I purchased the mix from AquariumFertilizer.com

Lighting Question

So I cut my lights back to eight hours. With one light coming on at 9am the other light on at 11am both running till 3pm then one off at that time and the other one off at 5pmm these are 10000k bulbs. I am also going to cut back on the amount of ferts I dose daily back to 3ml as I think I am doing too much.

I would actually say fertilizers are light, but it depends on how many grams are mixed in with those two cups. When I mixed and dosed liquids I added like 20mL to my 55 daily. I used individual mixes though not a comprehensive as I don't dose 1:1:1:1 ratios. I dose all the same fertilizers though, plus some others. My tank also runs high tech, but I agree your light is really high. Your light is double mine, maybe a little less. I use a high efficiency fixture on my 55 gallon. It runs only 2x55 watt power compacts, tank also runs pressurized CO2.

Your fertilizer mix is also missing a phosphate fertilizer, which I can almost guaranty is gonna be limiting if you are not adding it at those light levels. Also what are nitrate levels in the tank? And plant density/growth rate? Also how old is the tank?

Lighting Question

The tank has been up and running for over two years. I have just recently added more plants, plant denisty would be heavy and I am seeing new growth on all of them. I checked my water on the 18th results are
KH=4
Nitrate=5.0
Ammonia=0
PH=7.0
Nitrite=0
My water quality is the best its been since starting the tank. So should I stay with the 9ml for ferts?
