Hmmm, that's good to know. I'm thinking of a pair of the small chiclids, but was worried about algae, knowing that the algae eaters wouldn't do well in ph of 8.0+. Still can't decide what to put in the 10 gallon I've set up. I guess even if my water at work is 8.0ph, most Amazon/S.A. fish can still do okay?

Just because animals can't talk, does not mean they should not be heard

Wild caught fish will certainly have difficulties, but the GH is just as crucial if not moreso and I don't know what that is. Tank-raised fish can vary, but again the GH factors into this. Pristella Tetra would have no issue, but neons and cardinals would not last long-term. Our profiles for these fish explain why.

The aquarist is one who must learn the ways of the biologist, the chemist, and the veterinarian. [unknown source]

Something we all need to remember: The fish you've acquired was quite happy not being owned by you, minding its own business. If youíre going to take it under your wing then youíre responsible for it. Every aspect of its life is under your control, from water quality and temperature to swimming space. [Nathan Hill in PFK]
